Hidden behind an 8ft security gate down an unassuming alley is La Grenadine, a Gallic style guesthouse and one of the most charming hotels I’ve ever stayed in. Once buzzed through the gate we step into a rustic, apple strewn garden with a flagstone path leading towards the 19th century farm building. Our room is light and airy with an antique armoire and a free standing bath. The staff are warm and personable; hats, maps and a stream of recommendations are pressed into our hands. The location is perfect; a literal stones throw from Kloof Street but free from any late night noise. The hotel feels like a retreat, a secret to be in on. I couldn’t recommend it more.
From £80 per night.
